Isla Infusions
For this project we had to create a kombucha brand/advertisements and labels. The background of your kombucha brand is supposed to connect to Stockton CA. For mine I connected it to the filipino heritage and how Stockton has a large community of filipinos. With that I wanted to use bright colors to show the fun playfulness in kombucha and the different flavors are influenced from Filipino culture. You might wonder why one is named Manango. This is a play of words off of mango and Manang. In Stockton there is a generation that came here roughly 1930s called manong manang generation.
Dialogue
This was a assignment that is meant to challenge your ability to typographically communicate in a more experimental manner. Your primary focus is to visually depict the concept of dialog, or more loosely, an exchange between two people. (In other words, this is not a literal illustration or picture with words.) That real-life exchange or dialog takes many forms, ie. conversation, argument, command, whisper/secret, brainstorming, planning, plotting, etc. We find representations of those exchanges in poems, stories, songs, letters/correspondence, etc. So, the resulting arrangement of letters and words should capture the tone or feelings being expressed by that conversation.
Self Portrait
Using the image of a famous/recognizable personsand you as templates, create two different styles of portrait drawings. Think of the famous person as an influence on you. Choose carefully which style to apply to each person. (styles/steps are described below). Think about the final composition as a series or group of people. What connections or meaning might you infer between the the two of you by your choices of people, graphic style and overall arrangement—composition. Since your portrait is the only one that will be in color, it will naturally demand a lot of attention by comparison with the other drawing. Use this to your advantage as you decide on the placement of the images in creating the final composition/grouping.
